British stars shone brightly at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards. Olivia Coleman was named best actress in a musical comedy for her role as Queen Anne in The Favourite and Christian Bale won best actor in a musical / comedy for his portrayal of US Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice.
Bohemian Rhapsody won Best Film Drama and musician Mark Ronson won the best song, along with Lady Gaga for Shallow from the film A Star is Born. In the TV category, Richard Madden won best TV drama actor for The Bodyguard and Ben Wishaw received the best actor in a TV limited series for A Very English Scandal.
The Golden Globe Awards is the first major ceremony of the Hollywood Awards season and are seen by many as an indicator for the Oscars. With all the uncertainty and pessimism surrounding 2019, it is great to start the year with British success. Many congratulations to all concerned.
